Cheque this out.

In my previous entry, I mentioned that I was going to get a cheque cashed. Well, it just hasn't happened. I suppose it stems from being excessively demotivated to do anything these days, especially when all of the shit rolled downhill and subsequently exploded on my exact position. But it really has to be done now. Or I guess it could be done tomorrow, but there are things I need to look into today anyway. And I have to make a fairly important phone call, which I'm certain I'll get into in a later entry.  And now for something completely different...

My fan finally died a couple nights ago. This is a fairly big deal to me, because not only am I a fairly light sleeper because of various gastrointestinal issues such as (and, in particular,) Acid Reflux, I also have a fairly acute case of tinnitus. I've actually lost quite a bit of my hearing in my right ear and in dead silence, the ringing would drive me literally insane. We also have pet mice that do pretty loud things for their diminutive size. So having the fan on, in addition to moving the air around making things a little more comfortable for me, gave me just the right amount of back ground noise to overcome the tinnitus and better equalize the sound Jet's wheel made when he brought some food into it with him.

Tiny size. Massive noise.
Well, that's over. So I had to come up with a way to get to sleep without being driven insane and woken up with mousy antics. I decided to get a white noise generator for my iPhone since it was available without leaving the apartment and it was only two bucks for the full version. The nifty thing about this particular generator is that you can mix and match a variety of sounds to make a white noise that anyone can fall asleep to, based on their personal taste. The night before last, we chose to use a city, an oscillating fan and an air conditioner at various levels. It didn't work so well for my wife. Me neither. I ended up dreaming about a crazy weather reversal that showed up completely red on the radar (that's a bad thing, as most precipitation shows as green around the red and yellow storm cores) and it had pitch black, "pancake" wall clouds and some really fucking scary red lightning coming from it. It didn't help that the iPod dock that we have has this intense, eerie orange glow coming from the front panel, so waking up from that wasn't especially comforting.

So we tried another combination last night. This time, we used a river and "brown noise", a lower-pitched variation on classic white static. It worked pretty well, actually, despite the creepy orange ring on the other side of the room.  My back is a bit stiff because I'm old, and my bed is a fucking piece of shit, but hey. I slept somewhat OK.

Oh right, there is another topic that I was going to talk about in my last entry, but I was pushing 2000 words, and I'd already vented way too much. Some of you out there may or may not have noticed that I have ceased my album sales on my Bandcamp page. No, I didn't want to do it, but looking at my flatlined sales chart just depressed me day after day. I'd lower the price from $8 to $5 and then even to $1, but still nothing happened. That's not to say I've sold nothing. Quite the opposite, really, but my sales spiked in the first three or four days of a release and returned to literally nothing after that. So I decided to stop depressing myself with it and close up shop. I may still be creating some music for a fairly big project (from my point of view) so stay tuned on that, but my albums are finished. What do you guys think? Should I keep what I have up? Everything is priced at a buck, but the buyer does have the option to pay more if he or she chooses. Let me know.

I guess the time has come to get ready to go, but I have a couple of things I was thinking of doing today. I finished watching Dexter Season 6 on Netflix last night, so I guess it's back to Star Trek TNG. I tried watching 24, but I'm not sure if I'm liking it too much so far. I'll watch another episode and see what's what. And then there's episode 60 of Bullet Heaven, which I'm sure will be a great one, since it'll cover a pretty rare PC Engine HuCard game. I'll likely be starting filming on that today. One thing is for sure, I love the music in this game. I looked up the sound test code just to listen to it. Maybe I should record it and throw it up onto my iPhone before I leave....

  1. I'm sorry to hear about your album sales. :( If it's any consolation, you have at least one fan who listens to your stuff whilst making waffles every Sunday morning...

    1. I can take solace in that.

But I may be involved in something big this year. You'll hear about it once it's concrete.
